Aberdeen, SD-Funeral service for James E. Bury, 68, of Aberdeen will be 10:00 am, Friday, June 29, 2012 at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1708 8th Ave. NE. The Rev. Mark Ehrmantraut will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service.
James died June 22, 2012 at Sanford Health in Chamberlain, SD.
James, son of Willis and Lydia (Herr) Bury was born February 6, 1944 in Bristol, SD. This is where he was raised, graduating from Bristol High School with the class of 1962. He worked in the Bristol area and was drafted into the United States Army in 1965. He was stationed in Korea. Following his honorable discharge in 1967, he returned to Bristol and attended Lake Area Technical School in Watertown for one year.
James was united in marriage to Rosalie Mennenga on March 13, 1973 in Aberdeen. He began working for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1973 in track maintenance. In 1983, he began employment with St. Luke’s Hospital in the physical plant operations department. James retired in 2000.
James enjoyed gardening, keeping three gardens going in the community gardens. He also liked spending time with his son Michael going to the car races, Brown County Fair, Bull-O-Rama and other community events. The time he spent with his grandchildren was always special.
James was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 in Aberdeen.
James is survived by his wife, Rosalie, one son, Michael Bury of Chamberlain, two daughters, Holly Bury of Chamberlain and Toshia Bury of Aberdeen, two sisters, Betty (Arnie) Kelzer of Bath, SD and Linda Schmig of Groton, SD, one brother, Richard Bury of Watertown and two grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
Casketbearers will be Kellen Meyerink, Brent Fuhrmann, Ray Sauerwein, Corey Sauerwein, Al Sandquist and Gary Morehouse.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
