Eureka, SD-Funeral service for Ruben Bauer, 86, of Eureka will be 10:30 am, Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Zion Lutheran Church in Eureka. The Rev. Ryan Gage will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Eureka with military graveside rites.

There will be a prayer service Friday at 7 pm with visitation from 3-7 pm at the funeral home.

Ruben died June 22, 2012 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.

Ruben, son of Conrad and Wilhelmina (Schmidt) Bauer was born June 4, 1926 near Artas in Campbell County, SD. After attending grade school at the Schmidt School, he then attended Eureka Public School, graduating with the class of 1945. He spent some time on the farm and later worked for Nash Finch during the summer of 1947. He attended Coyne Electrical School and did electrical work from 1948 to 1950. He was drafted and spent from 1950 to 1952 in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Delker on November 4, 1951 in the Congregational Church in Eureka. They made their home on the Bauer family homestead where they farmed raising small grains and livestock. In 1987 they semi-retired but remained on the farm. Shirley died December 21, 2005 and Ruben continued to make his home on the farm until recently when he moved to Aberdeen Health and Rehab due to failing health from melanoma cancer.

Ruben enjoyed making wine. He had a passion for buying and raising cattle. Ruben had a very strong Christian belief and faith.

Ruben was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Fred Weller American Legion Post #186 and a former member of the Eureka Equity Exchange Board.

Ruben is survived by two sons, David (Paulette) Bauer of Williston, ND and Paul (Denise) Bauer of Globe, AZ, three daughters, Mary (Tom) Rohrich of Zeeland, ND, Betty (Steven) Walker of Madison, SD and Cheryl (Paul) Crisman of Morris, IL, two brothers, Walter (Helen) Bauer of Moorhead, MN and Leo (Helengrace) Bauer of Minneapolis, MN, one sister, Bernice (Ervin) Orth of Watertown, SD, two sister-in-laws, Helena Bauer of Rapid City, SD and Jo Bauer of Edina, MN, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

His parents, wife, one granddaughter, Jennifer Rohrich, six brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Ruben’s grandchildren, Amanda Bauer, Trina Klein, Samuel Crisman and Sarah Crisman.

The casketbearers will be Ruben’s grandsons, Justin Bauer, Bruce Rohrich, Mark Rohrich, Allan Rohrich, Adam Walker and Andrew Bauer.

The organist will be Lana Hilgemann and the soloist is Ronda Lapp.

The family prefers memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church cemetery fund.

    So sorry to read of Ruben’s passing. Ruben was a cousin to my father Bert Rieger. I’d only see and visit with Ruben when we’d see each other at funerals and anniversary celebrations over the years and always enjoyed our conversations. He would always extended an invitation to me to stop at the farm if I was ever in the area. He will be missed. My condolences to your entire family.
