Aberdeen, SD-Memorial service for Sang Hoang Nguyen, 64, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 am, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ. Rev. Ginny Adams and Rev. Timothy Adams will officiate.

Visitation with a time of sharing and greeting the family will be Friday from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Sang died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at his daughter’s home.

Sang Hoang Nguyen, son of Gau and Van Nguyen was born November 11, 1952 in Saigon, Vietnam. He attended school and graduated from high school. Sang was a soldier in the South Vietnam Army where he was a paratrooper. Following the fall of South Vietnam, he migrated to the United States. His first sponsor family was in Gettysburg, SD where he worked for a vending machine company. In 1977, he moved to Aberdeen and began working for Jorgensen’s Men’s Shop as a handyman. In 1978 he became employed at 3M as a production worker.

Sang was united in marriage to Diana Vik on July 14, 1979 in Diana’s mother’s home in Aberdeen. Sang was disabled in 1993 and was forced to retire from production work. He then worked part-time as a Custodian at Northeast Mental Health for many years.

Sang enjoyed music, was musically inclined and liked playing the guitar. He also liked hunting, especially deer. He was a member of American Taekwondo Association. He was a Third Degree Black Belt Instructor of Taekwondo.

Grateful for having shared Sang’s life is his wife of 38 years, Diana; three daughters, Miranda (Allan) Schmaltz) Pate-Schmaltz of Aberdeen, Melissa “Missy” (Koos O’Kennedy) Nguyen of Aberdeen and Angela “Annie” (Adam) Sahli of Ft. Wayne, IN; four grandchildren of Aberdeen and two brothers and three sisters in Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

The organist will be Missy Nguyen.

Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.

    We started at 3M around the same time. The disco age.?We did not get to talk alot over the pass few years even being a neighbor, but always had a honk as I passed by. Sang took pride in his front yard.

  3. I’m sorry to hear about his passing. I was a Taekwondo student of his and he helped to shape me as a person. He was definitely a positive role model when I needed one the most. He will be missed.
