Barbara was born November 10, 1931, to Leonard and Theresa (Reinbold) Scherr in Strasburg, North Dakota. Barbara grew up on a farm near Strasburg where she attended catholic school.  After the family moved, she attended country school in Roscoe, SD, and then attended school at St. Thomas in Roscoe. Barbara and her family were devout Catholics, and she and her family regularly prayed the rosary, which continued throughout her entire life.

Barbara and Raymond Hoerner, neighbors in rural Roscoe, courted and fell in love before Raymond joined the US Army.  On June 15, 1953, Barbara married the love of her life, Raymond, at St. Thomas church in Roscoe, SD. The couple lived on a farm outside of Roscoe where all their children were born and raised.  In 1979, Barbara and Ray moved to Aberdeen where they spent the rest of their days.

Barbara was a Certified Nursing Assistant in Bowdle, a quality technician at Control Data in Aberdeen, and a food service worker at Avera in Aberdeen.  She was a very active Catholic, a eucharistic minister, and had daily adoration and prayer for her family, and those she loved.  Barbara enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared Barbara’s life are five children: Dianne (Chuck) Crompton of Aberdeen, Michael (Teri) Hoerner of Des Moines, IA, Patrick (Annie) Hoerner of Aberdeen, SD, Teresa (Tim) Stump of Hudson, WI, Renae Dorow of Aberdeen, SD; sixteen grandchildren: Tina (Shannon) Brown, Joshua (Dixie) Crompton, Andrew (Martha) Crompton, Robert (Dani) Crompton, Joe Crompton, Matthew (Colleen) Rogers, Christopher (Lindsey) Hoerner, Angel (Tim) Sons, Adam (Lynn) Hoerner, Mitchell (Carrie) Stump, Jennifer (Brian) Black, Desirae (Eric) Gallagher, Douglas (Becca) Dorow, Derek (Hannah) Dorow, Deidre Dorow, Alisha (Jake) Voeller; thirty-five great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren,  two sisters: Lorraine Uhrich, Violet (Gene) Horn, one brother; Sebastian (Marian) Scherr; and two sisters-in-law Jeannette Scherr and Marcie Scherr.
