Carolyn Morehouse Obituary

Bristol, SD-Graveside Service for Carolyn Joanne Morehouse, 85, of Bristol will be 10:00 am, Friday, August 20, 2021, at Andover Cemetery. Rev. Tel Saucerman will officiate.

There will be a prayer service Thursday at 7:00 pm at Westside Wesleyan Church in Bristol.

Carolyn Joanne Morehouse was ushered into heaven with her Lord and savior on August 15, 2021, at the age of 85, after a long brave battle with cancer. She was born July 20, 1936, to Alvin and Esther Fugman in Lemmon, SD. At the age of 16, she moved to Andover, SD, and married Ivan Morehouse on September 12, 1952. To this union, four children were born. They later adopted two little boys.

Carolyn learned how to keep house, cook, clean, and raise children with no electricity or indoor plumbing at a very early age. In 1965, help came in the form of indoor plumbing to ease her load. She helped with every kind of farm work and milked cows with her husband, along with various other farming tasks. She loved her garden, especially her flowers, which were the envy of the neighborhood.

She was always preserving garden vegetables and fruits, to help feed her family. Carolyn had a beautiful touch for baking and decorating cakes which she enjoyed immensely, decorating the most gorgeous, delicious cakes, for every occasion.

Carolyn had an unshakable faith in the Lord. Her personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ helped her through many adversities and hardships. She helped with many positions in the Methodist church over the years, showing the joy of the Lord in many ways.

In 1986 Ivan and Carolyn moved from their farm south of Andover, into Andover. Carolyn loved to cook and bake. Many who stopped by were blessed by her wonderful cooking. She worked at Econo Foods in the bakery department for many years. In 1990, Carolyn bought the Andover Café serving homecooked meals to anyone who stopped in. She also had fabulous buffets on Sundays, which served the community and the surrounding area.

Biggest joys in her life were spending times with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She taught many grandchildren and great grandchildren how to cook, sew, and do handywork.

Carolyn had a beautiful voice and loved to sing whenever she could.

In 2017, Ivan and Carolyn moved into the Johnson Center in Bristol.

Carolyn will be deeply missed by her husband of 68 years, Ivan of Bristol; daughters, Glenda Nemec, Bristol, Sherry Turner (Bryce) and Connie Cutler (Loren), Veblen; sons, Bradley Morehouse (Diann), Andover, Paul Morehouse (Imogene), Theodore, AL, and Raymond Morehouse, Yankton; 27 grandchildren; 76 great grandchildren; sisters, Adrienne Logsdon, Palmer, AK, Stephanie Wynn, Oregon, and Rosalind (John Gyori), California; step-brother, Tim Fugman; step-sister, Peggy and sister-in-law, Judith Reasy (Mark), Andover.

She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Ross Reasy, two brothers, one sister and one son-in-law.

Memorials may be directed to Connie Cutler, 43985 101st St., Veblen, SD 57270.
