Ashley, ND-Memorial Service for David Hagel, 72, of Ashley will be at 11:00 am Monday, January 31, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. Deacon Deb Cantrell will officiate.
Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in the spring of 2022.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
David died January. 24, 2022, at his home.
David Hagel, son of Gideon F. and Ida (Pfeifle) Hagel was born October 25, 1949, in Eureka, SD. He grew up on the family farm 14 miles west of Ashley. He attended rural school through the eighth grade at Albrights Valley School District. He then attended school in Ashley beginning with his freshman year, graduating from Ashley High School with the class of 1967. He obtained a degree in Agricultural Economics from North Dakota State University graduating in 1971.
He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as an Ag Statistician in a number of cities (Fargo, ND; Boise, Idaho; Lansing, Michigan; and Washington, D.C.) before retiring in 2008.
Upon his retirement, he moved to Ashley to be closer to family and enjoy a quieter lifestyle.
David was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church serving as an usher and several terms on the Church Council.
He was also a current member of the Western North Dakota Synod Council.
Some of his hobbies included cooking, relaxing, hunting, fishing, grilling, and listening to music.
He liked to visit with people and often visited shut-ins. He and Terry Marzolf would enjoy many an evening together with a pizza and watching a football game, movie, or playing a board game.
David is survived by his sister, Delphine Hagel, Sisseton, SD, brother Dan Hagel, Wheatland, Wyoming, and several cousins.
His parents and sister JoAnn preceded him in death.
