Aberdeen, SD-Graveside Service with military rites for Dennis Benfit, 71, of Aberdeen will be 1:00 pm, Friday, November 12, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
Dennis died November 5, 2021, at his home.
Dennis was born July 20, 1950 to Clarence and Veronica (Dosch) Benfit at Aberdeen. His grandparents, Elmer and Margaret Gardner raised him. He grew up attending Aberdeen Public Schools, graduating from Central High School with the class of 1968.
Dennis enlisted in the United States Army in January 1970 serving in Vietnam as a Supply Clerk and Aircraft Maintenance Technician. He was honorably discharged in January 1972. Dennis then served in the South Dakota National Guard in Aberdeen until March 1973.
Dennis then moved to Minneapolis and was employed at Meyers Printing for several years. He moved back to Aberdeen and later to Sioux Falls, SD where he worked. He then returned to Aberdeen to retire. During his retirement, Dennis was employed part-time for Hase Plumbing for a few years.
Dennis was a very good sketch artist and enjoyed photography. The show, SpongeBob Square Pants always made him laugh. He collected wrist watches and knives. Dennis was especially proud of his military history and military memorabilia.
Grateful for having shared Dennis’ life are his many cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Elmer and Margaret Gardner.
