Elda Christman

Eureka, SD-Funeral Service for Elda Mae Christman, 91, of Eureka will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 12, 2022, at Eureka United Methodist Church. Rev. Shawn Abbas will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Elda’s obituary

Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elda died February 19, 2022, at Avera Eureka Health Care Center where she had resided since December 2015.

Elda (Kary) Christman was born on a farm in the Java, SD area on January 9, 1931, to Reinhold and Frieda (Junker) Kary. She attended the Buckenburger School while living on the farm until 1942 when her family moved to Eureka, SD. She attended Eureka grade school and high school and graduated in 1949. During her school years she worked at the Luncheonette as a waitress and after graduation she worked for Wenzel’s Clothing Store until February 1950 when she started her banking career at Eureka State Bank.

After her marriage to Marvin Christman on June 29, 1952, they moved to Aberdeen, SD and she worked at First National Bank until June 1954. They moved back to Eureka in 1954 and in July 1955 she went back to work at Eureka State Bank where she was employed until retiring in 2007.

Elda is survived by her sister, Joyce (Jerome) Pfeiffer of Aberdeen; five sisters-in-law, Della N. Kary and Bonnie Kary of Eureka, Della M. Kary of Aberdeen, Lorene Libis of Dickinson, ND and Darleen Beckler Santos of Lodi, CA; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Elda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, Alton (Selma), LeRoy, Don, Rollie, and Mel, two infant sisters and niece, Melissa Kary.

Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
