James Albert Quenzer was born October 2, 1962 to Albert and Alvina (Walther) Quenzer at Eureka, SD. He grew up on a farm near Eureka, helping his parents on the family farm. He graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1980. He then attended University of Mary in Bismarck, ND obtaining his bachelor's degree. He worked in the Bismarck area for a few years and later moved to Minneapolis where he worked for Cargill Corporation as a computer programmer.

In December 2013, James moved to Pierre, SD and was employed with the State of South Dakota with the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications as a Software Engineer Manager I. In March of 2020, he returned to Eureka due to the pandemic related office shutdowns and continued to work remotely.

James loved researching family history and spending time outdoors gardening, especially flowers. He also enjoyed his cats, Lefty and Rusty, and listening to old-time music. He was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church and Germans from Russia.

Grateful for having shared James's life are his beloved mother, Alvina of Eureka; sisters, Sylvia Hauge of Eureka, and Jeanie (Terry) Hoffman of Leola, SD and brother, Harley Quenzer of Rapid City, SD, along with many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
