Jannel Bentz

Eureka, SD-Funeral Service for Jannel Louise Bentz, 54, of Eureka will be 10:30 am Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Eureka United Methodist Church.  Pastor Ken Ballard will officiate.  The service will be live streamer and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Jannel’s obituary.

Burial will be in Artas Cemetery.

Closed casket visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Jannel died May 5, 2021 at Bowdle Nursing Home.

Jannel Louise Bentz, daughter of Jack and Joyce Parker was born February 15, 1967 at Hugo, Colorado. She grew up on the family homestead in Karval, CO and attended school at Karval.

Jannel met the love of her life at an auction sale and was united in marriage to Paul Bentz in Karval, CO on October 4, 1986. They made their home in Eureka.  Jannel worked in many areas of the state, supporting preschool education providing in-home services for many local communities. She provided office administration support for Dr. Alandy until their son Travis was born. Jannel worked at the local Call Center becoming the trusted training coordinator, she even helped area farmers during heavy season workloads.  Jannel provided daycare for the Eureka community after the Call Center closed. As the boys grew, Jannel worked for McCleary Lumber Company later becoming the Eureka yard/store Manager.  In late 2010, Jannel and Paul bought the lumber yard in Eureka and it became JP Lumber. Both Jannel and Paul were active and valued members of the Eureka community.  In 2016 Jannel moved into Bowdle Nursing Home after a medical accident.

Jannel had a true love for children and had a smile and a laugh that is remembered by all.  Before the boys were born for a period of seven years, Jannel and Paul were foster parents for somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 children. Jannel passionately supported her boys and their activities which included those of their friends as well. 

Grateful for having shared Jannel’s life are her sons, Travis (Hayley Leibel) Bentz of Selby, SD Andrew (Alexis) Bentz of Eureka and Justin Bentz of Eureka; granddaughter Nora Bentz; mother, Joyce Dohn of Eureka, and siblings Jeff (Robyn) Parker of Salina, KS and Jay (Carol) Parker of Decatur, TX.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, father, Jack, husband, Paul (2-18-21) and son, Luke Alfred Bentz (10-6-96).

Honorary Casketbearers will be Bowdle Nursing Home Staff, JP Lumber Employees and Friends and Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Casketbearers will be Jay Parker, Jeff Parker, Spencer Parker, Randy Knoepfle, Darwin Aman, Tony Goldade, Michael Bentz and Tim Kauk.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Bowdle Nursing Home.
