Aberdeen, SD-Celebration of Life Service for Karen Kay Ulmer, 74, of Aberdeen, will be held in the Spring 2022.
Karen died December 30, 2021, at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.
Karen Kay, daughter to Walter and Leona (Widmer) Ulmer was born July 5, 1947, in Kulm, ND. She grew up in the Fullerton, ND area on the family farm and attended school in Fullerton, graduating from Fullerton High School. She then attended Beautician School in Aberdeen.
Karen lived in Jamestown, ND working in motels and at Walmart. In 2007, she moved to Aberdeen where she continued to work at Walmart Supercenter as a cashier. Karen retired in 2017 after working for the Walmart Corporation for over 20 years.
Karen enjoyed doing craft work, including knitting, embroidery, rubber stamping, crocheting, and sewing. She definitely liked to keep her hands busy. In Jamestown, she participated in Relay for Life and fundraising for cancer research. Because of her love of her hobbies, she made and donated blankets to nursing homes and hats for cancer patients around North Dakota, South Dakota, and Colorado.
Grateful for having shared Karen’s life are her daughter, Tanya Ulmer of Aberdeen; son, Jesse Ulmer of Aberdeen; three grandchildren, Alex, Jakob, and Michaela; two great-grandchildren, Karder and Ryleigh; three brothers, Duane (Linda) Ulmer, Doug (Rondi) Ulmer and Gary Ulmer and one sister, Kate Ulmer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and grandson, Austin.
