Kathryn Elizabeth Heier

Aberdeen, SD-Mass of Christian Burial for Kathryn Elizabeth Heier, 87, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 am, Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Mark Axtmann will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.CarlsenFH.com under Kathryn’s obituary.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Monday at 4:00 pm with a Rosary and Wake Service at 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Kathryn died June 30, 2021, at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen.

Kathryn Elizabeth Versluis was born at Grandma Tuscherer’s home in Ipswich, SD on March 29, 1934, to Leonard and Margaret (Green) Versluis. Kathryn’s family farmed in the Ipswich area where she attended Holy Cross Catholic School. Later her family farmed near Cresbard, SD where she graduated from Cresbard High School in 1954. After graduating from high school Kathryn moved to Aberdeen where she was employed at St. Luke’s Hospital.

On June 3, 1958, Kathryn and Albert Heier were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by Monsignor Henry Hoerner. They celebrated 63 years of marriage this year. Later in life Kathryn was employed at Sacred Heart Parish where she helped to clean the Church and Rectory working alongside her sister-in-law and her husband Regina and Carroll Reis.

Kathryn loved to read, entertain, and decorate for the holidays. She greatly enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Kathryn’s foundation was her faith and love of family. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Altar Society.

Grateful for having shared Kathryn’s life are her husband Albert of Aberdeen; son, Michael (Karen) Aberdeen; step grandchildren, Kim (Justin) Werk and son Jet of Elk River, MN, Amanda (Ryan) Perrion and children Anna, Emery, Cadence, and Gideon of Aberdeen; daughter, Kathleen (Tom) Schneider of Aberdeen; grandchildren; Angie (Jim Hauck) Schneider and sons Cooper and Jimmy of Aberdeen, Tommy (Jessica) Schneider and sons Benny and Joey of Aberdeen. She is also survived by one brother Matt Versluis of Glendale, AZ, brothers-in-law, Eugene (Betty) Heier of Aberdeen and Larry (Cora) Heier of Oakes, ND; sisters-in-law Lorenzia Oakes of Aberdeen, Regina (Carroll) Reis of Aberdeen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters-in-law Marlene Versluis, Anna Kolasch, Catherine (Wilfred) Kappenman; brothers-in-law Leo (Frances) Heier and Stephen Oakes, Sr.

Kathryn’s family would like to thank the staff of Avera and Prairie Heights Healthcare for the care she received. We would also like to thank their special friends and neighbors Chris and Dan.

Casketbearers will be Tom Schneider, Tommy Schneider, Justin Werk, Ryan Perrion, Cooper Gonsor and Jimmy Hauck.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers Church Masses in Memory of Kathryn.
