Bismarck, ND-Memorial Service for LaRae Carlson, 90, of Bismarck and formerly of Aberdeen will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Chapel in Aberdeen. Rev. Jeff Whillock will officiate. Face Coverings are required.
Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Cemetery.
LaRae died August 28, 2021, at Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota in Sioux Falls.
LaRae was born March 20, 1931, to John R. and LaVon (Larson) Robertson in Fremont, NE. She lived in Fremont, East Grand Fords, MN and Valley City, ND. LaRae graduated from Valley City High School and attended college at Valley City State, University of North Dakota, and Northern State College, where she received her BS and MS degrees. She was honored to be chosen as a Distinguished Teacher in 1990.
LaRae married Hugo Carlson on January 7, 1951, in Valley City, ND. She was employed as a secretary until 1970 when she returned to college to complete her education. LaRae taught at Roncalli Junior High School for 15 years, then taught part-time at Presentation College for two years.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and was involved in various capacities. She was a past president of NSC Faculty Wives and belonged to several bridge clubs.
LaRae and her husband, Hugo, moved to Bismarck, ND in December 2016 to live with their son, Hugh, and his family.
Grateful for having shared LaRae’s life are her sons, Dr. Craig (Terri) Carlson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dr. Hugh (Colleen) Carlson of Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren, David, Corey (Adrianne), RaeAnne, Chas, Erik (Ally) and Alanna and three great-grandchildren, Colin, Islay, and Claire.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, husband, Hugo (5-21-2019), brother, LaRoi Robertson and two half-brothers, Dru Olson and Bruce Olson.
The family prefers memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen or Bismarck (Burleigh County) Senior Center.
