Lori Warning Obituary

Aberdeen, SD-Celebration of Life for Lori Beth Warning, 57, of Aberdeen and formerly of Sedalia, MO will be 4:00 pm, Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory.

Burial will be in Dover Cemetery, La Grange, MO at a later date.

Lori died November 27, 2021 at her home with her guardian by her side as always.

Lori Beth was born on August 26, 1964 in Keokuk, IA, and adopted as an infant by William Otis and Marian Jean (Karmer) Warning. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia and the following years lived in several residential care facilities.

While Lori’s mother, Jean was living in a nursing home in Sedalia, she asked Jen Ohare to be Lori’s full guardian.  Lori then moved into Jen’s home and her heart.  Jen and Lori made their way to South Dakota where they resided in Aberdeen near Jen’s parents.

Lori was “employed” by My Place Hotel in Aberdeen. She had to overcome so much but worked hard to gain the skills she needed for her job.  There she enjoyed the feeling of being one of the team. She loved the activity of the hotel and making friends and acquaintances. This past birthday, she was given a surprise birthday party at Pizza Ranch and was thrilled by it and seeing so many come to celebrate.

She loved food especially steak, roast, shrimp and dessert.  Let’s not forget the most important part of her day was drinking her soda.   It took some time, but she managed even without any teeth.

Lori liked sports and enjoyed wearing clothing with her favorite teams’ logo, the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and for her Papa Bear, Lee Volk, the Vikings. She loved jokes and she had a Kansas City mile smile. She liked to bowl. She liked athletic shoes of all kinds and she wanted black high tops for Christmas this year, but time was just too short.

She loved animals and Jupiter, the family cat, kept close watch over Lori until the end. Jupiter would lay by her at the top of the bed watching the nurses every move. As long as she had strength, she would cradle him in her arms for awhile everyday.

On October 20, 2021 the family was told Lori had cancer. During her short time left, a little over five weeks, Lori received so much loving attention, visitors, flowers and cards. She knew she was loved. She missed her parents and spoke of them often as well as her Corgi dog, Bear. She was a daddy’s girl and followed along with him as he worked at various parks for the Department of Natural Resources. From that, came her love for 4-wheelers, pickup trucks, and motorcycles. She wanted to go “home” to Missouri for Christmas.

Surviving Lori is her adoptive brother, Thomas (and John Kalohn) of Iowa City, IA; Uncle Richard and Aunt Luella Kramer, Palmyra, MO; Jen Ohare, guardian, and all of Jen’s family in Aberdeen and Missouri.

Lori was preceded in death by her parents and a baby brother, William Todd (November 1963).

Grateful to all the Hospice caregivers, her friends from My Place Hotel, her Uncle Richard and Aunt Luella, and her family who loved her as their very own.

God, we thank you for simple blessings and especially for those who teach us true humility.
