Malinda Ladner Obituary

Eureka, SD-Funeral Service for Malinda Ladner, 102, of Eureka will be 10:00 am, Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Eureka Reformed Church. Rev. James Grossmann will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Malinda’s obituary.

Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Malinda Ladner passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Avera Eureka Health Care Center where she has resided since October 2018. Malinda Koerner was the fourth of six children born at home on their farm 14 miles northeast of Eureka, SD, to Karolina (Knapp) and Jacob Koerner on Sunday, February 23, 1919.

Malinda Koerner was baptized on April 27, 1919, by Reverend G. J. Zenk at the Glueckstal Reformed Church in Odessa Township, McPherson County, South Dakota.

Malinda Koerner was confirmed on June 25, 1933, by the Reverend W. J. Kreiger.

Malinda (Koerner) and Bernhold "Barney" Ladner were married on October 27, 1940, at Glueckstal Reformed Church in Odessa Township, McPherson County, South Dakota. Bernhold "Barney" Ladner passed away on October 11, 1985, at the Americana Nursing Home in Aberdeen, Brown County, South Dakota, at age 69.

Malinda enjoyed entertaining guests in her home, playing cards and bingo with her friends, and embroidering. When her granddaughters were preschool age, she sewed dresses and outfits for them. Her favorite pie was lemon meringue. She loved to watch the Minnesota Twins play baseball on TV. She and Barney loved to dance. Malinda was a homemaker, bookkeeper at Barney's Produce, and worked as a clerk at the City Liquor Store. Malinda was a member of the Eureka Reformed Church and Ladies Fellowship.

Malinda loved her family. She loved her friends. She loved. She was loved. She is love. The world is a little less bright today with the loss of this wonderful woman, but the world is a whole lot better because she was part of it.

Malinda is survived by: daughter, Caroline Straub of Rapid City, SD, son, Clark Ladner and his wife Angie of Vermillion, SD, grandchildren Charlotte Herbranson and husband Greg of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and their sons Ben and Bryce and wife Emily and 2 children: Alex and Stella , Allan Wee and wife Rocio of Corinth, Texas and their daughter Emma, Melissa Briggs and husband Justin of Boise, Idaho, and Jennifer Ramos and husband Ryan of Boise, Idaho and their 3 children Rylee, Riya, and Riggs, great granddaughter Grace Konda, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Malinda was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernhold “Barney” Ladner, 5 siblings: Gustave "Gust" Koerner, Philippine (Koerner) Wittmayer, Annetta (Koerner) Ladner, Allan Koerner, and Edmund Koerner; granddaughter Michelle Ladner, and a great granddaughter.

Honorary Casket bearers: Avera Eureka Health Care Center Staff

Casket bearers: Harry Mehlhaff, Milton Koerner, David Roggenkamp, Barry Lapp, Mike Neuharth and Allan Wee.

The family prefers memorials to Eureka Reformed Church.
