Ashley, ND-Private Funeral Service for Nehemiah Dorothy Schumacher, 86, of Ashley will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Carlsen Funeral Home in Ashley. Rev. David Irwin will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Nehemiah's obituary.
Burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Public visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Nehemiah died November 22, 2020 at Ashley Nursing Home.
Nehemiah Dorothy was born June 23, 1934 to Gottlieb G. and Emelia (Golz) Pfeifle on the family homestead nine miles northwest of Ashley. She grew up there, while helping with field work. Nehemiah always loved the outdoors. She attended country school and Ashley High School, graduating with the class of 1953. She then attended college at ND State Normal and Industrial School in Ellendale earning a teaching certificate. She taught country school in Coldwater Township and the Venturia and Danzig area.
She was united in marriage to Raymond Schumacher on August 6, 1961 in Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. They made their home in Ashley and started their family. In the early 1970's, she began work at Blumhardt Manufacturing where she ran a plastic extrusion machine. In the evening, she worked as a bartender in Ashley bars. In 1984, Nehemiah and Raymond purchased the Sportsman Bar in Ashley and operated it until 1996 when they sold it and retired.
Nehemiah was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and church circles, also of Lake Hoskins Improvement Association and Coldwater Wildlife Club. She enjoyed gardening and canning and quilting and sewing was always a relaxing pastime. She liked to get out and play Bingo and over the years collected coins. She loved to go fishing with her family and was very good at it. Nehemiah loved to socialize. She looked forward to attending auctions and playing cards with friends.
Grateful for having shared Nehemiah's life are her husband of 59 years, Raymond; sons, Neal (Maggie) Schumacher of Ellendale and Michael Schumacher of Ashley; daughter, Ruth (Justin) Germain of Perham, MN; six grandchildren, Christopher Hartze, Jennifer (Shawn) Goehring, Logan Schumacher, Austin Germain, Takoda Germain and Brooke Germain; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Aubrie; sisters, Erna Klipfel of Ashley and JoAnne (Lester) Schlepp of Yakima, WA; brother, Norman (Janet) Pfeifle of Paw Paw, MI and brother-in-law, Gustave Dockter of Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, LeRoy, and Adam and two sisters, LuElla Jones and Violet Dockter.
Casketbearers will be Christopher Hartze, Logan Schumacher, Shawn Goehring, Austin Germain and Takoda Germain.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Ashley Nursing Home.
