Roland "Rollie" Kary Obituary

Eureka, SD-Memorial Service for Roland “Rollie” Kary, 79, of Eureka will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Carlsen Funeral Home. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Roland’s obituary.

Burial will be in Eureka City Cemetery in the Spring 2022.

Rollie died December 15, 2021, at Eureka Community Health Services Avera.

Roland “Rollie” was born October 10, 1942, to Reinhold and Frieda (Junker) Kary at Eureka, SD. He graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1960, earning the honor of valedictorian. Rollie attended South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City but due to his family needing him, he then returned to Eureka and worked at the family’s business, Kary’s Home Oil for his entire working career until he contracted Covid-19 and was hospitalized until his death.

Rollie was a dedicated supporter of the Eureka community and really enjoyed Eureka sporting events. He loved his community. He enjoyed bowling and playing volleyball. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Celtics fan. Rollie loved riding his motorcycle and evening and Sunday drives were always relaxing for him.

Grateful for having shared Rollie’s life are his sisters, Elda Christman of Eureka, and Joyce (Jerome) Pfeiffer of Aberdeen, SD; sisters-in-law, Della N. Kary and Bonnie Kary of Eureka and Della M. Kary of Aberdeen; and many Kary Klan nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Rollie was preceded in death by his parents, infant sisters, Alvera and Jean, brothers and sister-in-law, Alton (Selma), LeRoy, Don, and Melvin; brother-in-law, Marvin Christman and niece, Melissa Kary.

Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
