Aberdeen, SD-Memorial Service for Sandra Kay Fernen, 62 and her son, Brandon Schlosser, 41, both of Aberdeen will be 3:30 pm, Thursday, June 24, 2021, at First United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. Pastor Mike Waldrop will officiate.
Inurnment for Sandra will be in Black Hills National Cemetery and Inurnment for Brandon will be in Conde Cemetery.
Sandra died June 19, 2021, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD and Brandon died June 12, 2021, in Sioux Falls.
Sandra Kay, was born December 21, 1958, in Lemmon, SD. She was adopted when she was a small child by Darrell and Joyce (Wolner) Haskell. She grew up and was educated in Conde, graduating from high school with the class of 1977. She then attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls pursuing a business degree. She moved to Aberdeen and worked at 3M and Banner Engineering.
Sandra and her three children moved to Watertown where she worked for a few years at Walmart Supercenter. She was united in marriage to Gene Fernen on June 21, 2006, in First United Methodist Church, Aberdeen. They made their home in Aberdeen where she was a homemaker.
She enjoyed watching professional wrestling on television and was an avid NASCAR fan, with Jimmy Johnson being her favorite driver. She loved her children, and everyone will remember her infectious laugh. Over the years she collected cows and any time spent at the family cabin was a good memory.
Sandra was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include Sandra’s husband, Gene Fernen of Aberdeen; daughter, Kimberly Schlosser (Matt) of Ashton, SD; brothers, Curtis (Cindy) Haskell of Conde and David Haskell of Sioux Falls; sisters, Deb (Dale) Schoenfeld of Watertown and Linda (Rob) Haskell-Sherman of Excelsior Springs, MO and one grandson, Otto.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Samuel Schlosser (8-16-2014) and Brandon Schlosser (6-12-2021).
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to DAV (Disabled American Veterans), VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) or any Veterans organization.
