Twyla J. Elsen

Hecla, SD-Memorial Service for Twyla J. Elsen, 64, of Hecla will be 10:30 am, Thursday, August 18, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hecla. Rev. Sara Sorensen will officiate.

Burial will be in Hecla City Cemetery.

There will be a prayer service at 7:00 pm, Wednesday at the church.

Twyla died August 11, 2022, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen.

Twyla Jean Elsen, oldest child of Gilbert and Darlene (Heitmann) Elsen was born on October 28, 1957, in Britton, SD. As a young girl Twyla lived briefly at Fort Sisseton, SD and moved with her parents to Hecla, SD in 1984 where they lived on a farm.

Twyla had a love of flowers and gardening. She worked briefly at a greenhouse in Oakes, ND where she took flower arranging class. She then worked briefly at 3M in Aberdeen and then started a 30+ year career at Klein’s in Aberdeen. She made countless wedding bouquets and other flower arrangements and touched many with her talent. She worked there until they closed in 2014.

Twyla was a selfless caring person which led her to help take care of an elderly aunt until the time of her death. She also devotedly cared for her parents in their declining years. Twyla loved her nieces and nephew and devoted her time to attending their various activities as they grew up. They were the light of her life. She also enjoyed card playing and attending the Brown County Fair.

Twyla was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hecla.

Twyla is survived by her siblings, Curt Elsen of Hecla, LeeAnn (Curt) Loe of McVille, ND, Neil Elsen and Arlin (Darla) Elsen both of Hecla; nieces and nephew, Shelby (Zach) Fenske, Hailey Elsen and Tyler Loe; and great-nephew, Huxley Fenske.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dean Elsen (1982) and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
