Viola A. Spitzer

Aberdeen, SD-Funeral Service for Viola A. Spitzer, 100, of Aberdeen, formerly of Eureka will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Zion American Lutheran Church in Eureka. Rev. Gary Neuharth and Rev. Ryan Gage will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Viola’s obituary.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Viola died May 27, 2022, at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen.

Viola A. Iszler, daughter of Fred and Pauline (Rothfusz) Iszler was born April 21, 1922, near Ashley, ND on the family farm. This is where she grew up and attended country school. She worked at Spitzer’s Clothing in Ashley. She later moved to Washington and worked at Ft. Lewis in the Post Exchange for a brief time. Viola then returned to Ashley. Viola was united in marriage to Herbert Spitzer on July 1, 1945, in Ashley, ND. They made their home in Eureka. For many years, Viola worked at Wenzel’s Clothing and Opp’s Clothing until her retirement in the 1970’s. During some of Viola and Herbert’s retirement years 1987-1993, they helped their son and daughter-in-law at the Eureka Bakery. In 1998, they moved to Aberdeen; Herbert died on December 31, 1999. In 2001 she started spending part of the winter in Oro Valley, AZ with her daughter. Viola entered nursing care in October 2017.

Viola enjoyed gardening, needle work, baking and having coffee with her friends. In her later years, she enjoyed search puzzles and reading.

Viola was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church of Eureka. She was a member of the Eureka VFW and American Legion Auxiliary and a Brownie Scout leader.

Grateful for having shared Viola’s life are her daughter, Brenda Spitzer of Oro Valley, AZ; son, Larry (Linda) Spitzer of Aberdeen and grandson, Zachary Spitzer of Aberdeen.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Herbert, brother, Elhart Iszler, sister, Esther Ehley and grandson, Ryan .

Honorary Casketbearers are her grandson, nieces, and nephews.

Her family would like to thank the staff of Prairie Heights Healthcare for the excellent care they provided.
