Violet Rott Obituary

Violet Emma Rott 99, of Aberdeen SD, formerly Fredonia-Kulm ND area, went home to heaven on March 30, 2023, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, in Aberdeen SD.  A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 19, at Carlsen Funeral Home in Aberdeen, SD, with Pastor Adam Ost officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be at Ashley City Cemetery, Ashley ND at a later date.

Violet Emma Dollinger was born February 26, 1924, to Gottlieb G. and Emma (Blumhardt) Dollinger on the family farm west of Venturia ND. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Violet accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in 1934, and became a member of the Venturia Baptist Church. In 1938, when she was 14 years old, the family moved to a farm south of Fredonia ND where she attended country school and graduated from 8th grade. Violet was the eldest child in the family. Besides working on the farm, she also worked for other families doing housework and child care. She became a faithful member of the Berlin Baptist Church nearby where she met her future husband.

On October 14, 1945, Violet was united in marriage to Elliott Rott at the country church, Berlin Baptist Church of rural Fredonia ND. They had a double wedding ceremony with Violet's sister Ida and Elliott's cousin, Elledhor Irion. They made their home on his family farm south of Fredonia.  The couple was blessed with two children, Kathleen and Daryl. They farmed for 63 years, expanding the farm over the years. Violet was often found combining, helping in the shop, painting the highest points of the farm buildings, gardening, canning, mowing, or planting flowers along the driveway. They were married for almost 75 years when Elliott passed away in June 2020.

Violet was an active member of the Berlin Baptist Church and community. She considered sharing the gospel her highest calling. Violet was a Sunday School teacher, directed Christmas programs, and was very active in the music ministries, singing duets with Elliott or her sister, Ida, ladies chorus, trio, quartet, church choir, and mixed quartet, singing for many services, musical programs, and funerals. Their mixed quartet sang at the community Memorial Day Service in Fredonia for many years. Violet served as church pianist and organist and treasurer of the Women's Missionary Fellowship. She worked on countless white cross projects and helped serve meals at local farm auctions, weddings, funerals, and special events. Violet designed floral arrangements using flowers from their yard for Sunday services each week throughout the summer and fall. She was a 4-H leader for many years and hosted many 4-H clubs, church, and youth groups, and family gatherings in their farm home.

In 1994 they built a new home and moved to Aberdeen SD. They became members of Calvary Baptist Church of Aberdeen, where she served as a deaconess. Violet, along with her husband and sisters often hosted the 60+ group activities in their home.

Violet was an avid reader, loved crafts, crocheting, embroidering, needlepoint, decorating, and entertaining. She was known for her delicious blachinda, knoephla, dumplings, buns, and fudge. She spoke and read German, loved to study family history and photos, and enjoyed scrapbooking. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing many of her own clothes, loved quilting, and was a member of local quilting bees.

Violet is survived by her daughter, Kathleen; son, Daryl; son-in-law, John; four nieces; six nephews and their families; many cousins and dear friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Elliott; her parents of Ashley, ND; her mother and father-in-law, John and Eva Rott, of Kulm, ND, three sisters, Ida Irion, Alma Buchholz, Rosie Weber; two brothers-in-law Elledhor Irion, Alfred Buchholz, one brother Edwin, "Sonny," in infancy, one nephew and his wife, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Violet was dearly loved and will be immeasurably missed and cherished forever.  We celebrate her legacy of faith, love of family and friends, and the fact that she is now rejoicing with her Lord and Savior.
