Wilbert "Willy" Walth Obituary

Aberdeen, SD-Funeral Service for Wilbert “Willy” Milbert Walth, 86, of Aberdeen will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Rev. D.T. Rawerts will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Friday, October 8th from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Wilbert soared home to the Lord on Monday, September 27, 2021. Wilbert was born on March 24, 1935, to Edwin and Rose Ann (Schilling) Walth in Hosmer, SD. He was one of six children and attended elementary school in Hosmer, after which they moved to Aberdeen and Wilbert graduated from Central High School. Shortly after high school, Wilbert was employed by Northwestern Public Service and devoted his entire career to this company prior to his retirement. Wilbert also enjoyed over-the-road trucking in his spare time.

Wilbert married Rose Ann Schmidt in 1955 and had they had four children. Wilbert was later united in marriage to Glennice Kom on April 2, 1975, and they were both life-long, devout members of Trinity Lutheran Church.

"Willy" was an avid fisherman, owning a small home in Mobridge and hosting the adventurous "Walth Fishing Tournament" for many years. He also thoroughly enjoyed hunting. Joining him on these adventures was always his son, Bill, and many of his grandchildren. Wilbert was a phenomenal, brilliant wood worker with a shop in his basement that was envied by many. His talented displays of furniture and toys adorn the homes of most of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Willy and his “coffee crews” attempted to solve the world problems each day at McDonald’s and Louie’s Gas Station. For many, many years Willy and Glennice's home was the "hub" of the Kom and Walth families. All of their grandchildren and nieces and nephews have wonderful memories of the fun times spent at their home. Their door was always open with a bowl of M&M’s on the table and even if they weren't home their door was still always open.

Wilbert is survived by his children, William Walth (Monda), Cindy DuRae, Gary Walth (Norlyn) and Lori Eaton (Doug) as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Glennice (2012) as well as all of his siblings; Lawrence Walth, Mabel Tadlock, Allen Walth, Frank Walth, and James Walth. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law Steve Utley.

Willy’s family would like to extend sincere gratitude to the Primrose Assisted Living staff who cared for Willy following his wife's death. Many of these staff members treated Willy as "family" and enjoyed the playful banter that they exchanged frequently.

In lieu of flowers Willy’s family would appreciate that donations be sent to Trinity Lutheran School.
