Willard “Boss” Arthurs

Mellette, SD-Private graveside service for Willard "Boss" Arthurs, 92, of Mellette was Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Mellette Cemetery.
Boss died Friday, August 7, 2020 at the Redfield Community Memorial Hospital.
Willard, son of James and Josephine (Wendt) Arthurs was born June 22, 1928 on the family homestead northwest of Mellette, SD. He attended Mellette Public School graduating with the class of 1946. He then began to farm with his family, they were general farmers. Willard was united in marriage to Betty Lorenzen.
Boss was very active on the farm up until 10 year ago when he retired at the age of 82. He liked seeing the spring calves be born and watching the crops grow throughout the summer. Boss also enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting and he bowled for many years.
Boss was a member of Mellette Methodist Church and past member of Mellette Volunteer Fire Department, Masonic Lodge of Mellette, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Aberdeen.
Grateful for having shared Boss's life are his children, Peggy Haskell of Redfield, SD, Joe Arthurs of Belle Fourche, SD, and Patti (Doug) Ford of Mellette; sister-in-law, June Arthurs of Redfield; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Darlene Arthurs and son-in-law, Jack Welke.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
