Aberdeen, SD-Prayer service for Darlene Fay Vlasak, 71, of Aberdeen will be 2:30 pm, Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Derek Baum will officiate.

Burial will be in Bohemian National Cemetery in Pukwana, SD at a later date.

Darlene died November 28, 2017.

Darlene Fay Vlasak, daughter of Jaroslav and Agnes (Svoboda) Vlasak on August 6, 1946 at Gregory, SD. She grew up on the family farm north of Dallas, SD. Darlene started school in Eden Township Country School and graduated from Gregory High School with the class of 1964. She went on to attend Black Hills State College and received her Bachelors in Education. Darlene taught Physical Education at Gregory High School for two years, then relocated to Aberdeen where she taught at Central High School. Over the years, she taught Physical Education and later Business and Computer Technology. She retired in 2001 and remained in Aberdeen.

Darlene loved gardening. She cared deeply for her nieces and great nieces and nephews. She enjoyed going out for meals with her friends and square dancing was always enjoyable for her. Darlene looked forward to traveling when she could, especially to Europe and United States tours by bus with Montam Tours.

Grateful for having shared Darlene’s life is her sister, Shirley (Gene) Atteberry of Gregory, SD.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents.

Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.

    I enjoyed my first year of teaching with Darlene in Gregory!! We touched base when I moved to the Aberdeen area and loved visiting with her!! Darlene was the best PE teacher!!
