Ashley, ND-Funeral service for Edna Eszlinger, 100, of Ashley will be 10:30 am, Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley.  Rev. Susan Anderson will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Edna died January 7, 2020 at Ashley Nursing Home.

Edna Carolina was born November 26, 1919 to Andreas and Louisa (Weber) Neu on the Neu family farm 1 ½ miles northwest of Ashley.  Edna was united in marriage to Fred Eszlinger on November 13, 1941 in Zion Lutheran Church Parsonage in Ashley. ND.  They made their home on the Eszlinger farm north of Ashley, where their four children were raised from 1947-1955.  They then moved the farmhouse ½ mile from Ashley, living there until 2001.  They then sold the farm and moved to Ashley.

Edna worked hard cooking, baking, gardening and sewing.  She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, being proud that she was baptized, confirmed, and married there.  Edna and Fred enjoyed many happy winters during their retirement in their second home in Harlingen, Texas.

Grateful for having shared Edna’s life are her four children, Louise (Tom) Klipfel of Austin, MN, Doris Dickinson of Port St. Lucie, FL, Margaret (Stan) Vitez of Bismarck and James (Kathie) Eszlinger of Escondido, CA; 11 grandchildren, Kelly Branch, Randy Klipfel, Clint Vitez, Jill Nack, Jason Dickinson, Andrew Dickinson, Josh Nelson, Kris Eszlinger, Kurt Eszlinger, Kaili Hynes and James Eszlinger and 16 great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Colin Branch, Ben, Nate and Sam Klipfel, Samantha Vitez and Dillon Petersen, Caroline, Elizabeth, Leah and Julia Dickinson, Logan, Sloane, James and Jackson Eszlinger and Berkeley Hynes.

Most helpful to Edna while she was living in Ashley are her very dear friends and neighbors, Donna and Paul Gall, JoAnn Nitschke, LaNita Golz and Pam McShane.

Preceding Edna in death were her husband of 63 years, Fred, son-in-law, Bruce Dickinson, sister, Charlotte and three brothers, Richard, Herbert and Edwin Neu.
