Ella passed away on November 7, 2019.
Ella was born August 6, 1925 on a farm southeast of Venturia, ND as the third of four daughters of Christ C. Delzer and Pauline Haas Delzer. At age 3 her mother died, and her father later remarried. Three additional children were born into the family.
Ella attended school both in Venturia and an area country school, graduating from 8th grade. She then went to work on the family farm doing daily chores and fieldwork. At age 21 she married Edwin Kost and began life as a farmwife on a farm 5 miles north of Ashley. It was a hard life, but she loved it almost as much as her husband and four sons. In 1978 Edwin and Ella built a new home and lived in Ashley. It gave her the opportunity to cook for the Ashley Hospital for many years. Edwin died April 13, 1991.
She always loved being outside and tending a large garden, growing enough cabbage to supply the entire town for the year. Family looked forward to her dumplings, knoepfla soup and chocolate goodies of every kind. Ella was a member of Ashley Baptist Church.
One April 17, 2017 due to an illness Ella moved into the Baptist Health Care Center in Bismarck and resided there until the time of her death. Ella’s love of her Lord and family was endless and in her quiet way she never wavered from that nor wanted anything more.
Ella is survived by her four sons: Delbert (Sheri) Bismarck, Gerald (Sharon) Sioux Falls, Terry (Sue) Harvey, and Curtis (Friend, Jill) Valley City, her five grandchildren: Jason (Tammy), Derek (Shawna), Corey (Katie), and Kaitlyn Kost & Melissa (Drew) Nielsen and six great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include two sisters: Darlene Wolf-Wishek, and Maggie Kost-Aberdeen and one brother Allen Delzer-Aberdeen.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, and three sisters: Lenora Delzer, Edna Spiry and Esther Schnabel.

Sorry to hear of Ella’s passing! She was a very sweet, kind, and special lady whom I got to know at the Baptist Health Care Center. She ate at the same table as my mother for over a year and a half, so we all enjoyed each other many, many times. Ella enjoyed being hugged and talked to. I send my condolences to her whole family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
