Ellendale, ND-Memorial service for Gayle Anne Quam, 77, of Ellendale will be 10:00 am, Friday, December 7, 2018 at Peace Chapel – Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale. Rev. Gayle Leach and Chaplain David Montecuollo will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Ohio.
Gayle Quam died a peaceful death on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, ND. It brings to a close a life she might have written about in one of her poems.
Gayle was born April 11, 1941 in Reading, Pennsylvania. She is daughter of Cornelius and Viola Hoppes. Gayle is the oldest of four girls. Gayle graduated from nursing school in Pennsylvania in 1962. In 1964 and 1965, Gayle was blessed with two sons, Brad and Christopher.
Gayle married her neighbor Claude Quam in 1973. They were married for twenty-five years until Claude’s death in 1998. After retirement and Claude’s death, Gayle decided to move to North Dakota. She moved to Fargo in 2005, where she lived for nine years before moving to Ellendale, ND.
Gayle had an enduring life, interest’s and caring for Native American art and cultural presentation through her writing and collecting artifacts. She gave her collection of artifacts and writings to the Tulalip Tribe in March 1996. Gayle gave her book collection to the Everett Public Library in Washington at a later day. She loved writing poetry, which some has been published.
Gayle made Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale, North Dakota her home in 2014 and made it her final resting place. While there she participated in Art-for-Life program and attended monthly book club meeting at the library in the early years. She was a member of the St. Helena Catholic Church and a supporter of the Ellendale Historical Society. She often said “I love Ellendale; life here has been free of city violence and fear. Living here has been friendly with old fashioned, good quality values.”
She is survived by her three beloved sisters; E. Mary Johnson of Macedonia, OH, Roseann Karbarka of Fairfield, IA, and Leann and her husband, Rich Jarmolowicz of Wattsburg, PA and her son, Christopher, and his wife, Gina, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Brad White, and brother, Patrick Brennan.
