Gertrude died May 27, 2020 at Ashley Nursing Home.
Gertrude was born May 10, 1924 to John J.E. and Martha (Magstadt) Schock on the family farm 15 miles southeast of Ashley, ND. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school.
She was united in marriage to Theodore Betsch on October 13, 1946 in Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. They made their home on Theodore's parents farm for a year and in 1947 they moved to the John J.E. Schock homestead. They raised cattle and grain. Theodore died February 7, 1983. Gertrude continued to make her home on the farm. She retired in 1992 and moved to Ashley. In 2012 she entered nursing care.
Gertrude was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo and cards, especially Pinochle. She liked to read the Aberdeen American News and Readers Digest. Watching Soap Operas on television was always entertainment for her.
Grateful for having shared Gertrude's life are her daughter, Linda Jean (Greg) Harber of Elizabeth, CO; two sons, Rodney Betsch of Castle Rock, CO and Perry (Nancy) Betsch of Ashley; three grandchildren, Sean Strotheide, Christina Waters and Nathan Betsch; sister, Ramona Dockter of Madison, WI and brother-in-law, Myron (Beth) Walth of Aberdeen, SD.
