Aberdeen, SD-Private Burial for Gordon John Crawford, 92, of Aberdeen and formerly of Mellette, SD will be at Riverside Cemetery. Pastor Mark Zimmerman will officiate.

Gordon died May 10, 2019 at Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.

Gordon was born on April 16, 1927 to John and Jesse (Roundy) Crawford at Aberdeen. He grew up in the Mellette and Aberdeen area, graduating from high school in Mellette. He entered the United States Navy October 14, 1947. He was a fireman, serving in the Korean War and was honorably discharged October 5, 1951. Gordon returned to Mellette where he rented a farm and started farming.

Gordon was united in marriage to ValJene Fenske on October 16, 1952 in Aberdeen. He eventually purchased farmland and they built a new home on the farm. They were grain and cattle farmers, retiring in 1989. In 2001, they moved to Aberdeen.

Gordon liked to hunt duck, geese and pheasant. Playing pinochle and whist with family and friends was enjoyable for him. He looked forward to spending time with his brothers-in-law and was a huge Twins baseball fan. Gordon will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor.

Grateful for having shared Gordon’s life are his sons and daughters, Vicki (Don) Eimers of Aberdeen, Kevin (Kathy) Crawford of Mellette, Kim (Andy Pitmon) Crawford of Cheyenne, WY, Lori (Jim) Kempton of Sheridan, WY and Todd Crawford of Nathrop, CO; four grandchildren, Jackie Drobny, John Eimers, Dustin Kempton and Taffy Johnson; eight great-grandchildren, Brenden, Zacharey and Kaylynn Alice Jene Drobny, Easton, Emersyn and Emsley Eimers and Gwendolyn and Ella Johnson and one sister, Gleva Berndt of Big Lake, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, ValJene (3-29-2007) and sister, Lorraine Miller.

The family prefers memorials to Salvation Army of Aberdeen.
