Ashley, ND-Funeral service for Joan Rau, 91, of Ashley will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ashley. Rev. Annette Crickenberger will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Joan, loving wife and mother died September 4, 2018 at Ashley Nursing Home.

Joan was born April 3, 1927 in Kulm, ND to Henry and Sophia (Riedlinger) Krueger. Joan was united in marriage to Oscar Rau on October 13, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley, ND. They made their home in the Ashley area and were married 68 years at the time of Oscar’s passing.

They farmed east of Ashley one year and then purchased a farm east of Venturia, where they raised cattle and grain. Joan was a key partner in the family farming business and was proud of the fact that she could operate virtually all of the equipment on the farm. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading the local and regional newspapers.

Grateful for having shared Joan’s life are her daughter, Diane LaValley of Grand Forks, ND; son, Steve (Joanie) Rau of Zimmerman, MN; grandson, Matthew (Kelsey) Rau and great-granddaughters, Raegan, Evie and Ruby; grandson, Allan (Karin) Rau and great-granddaughter, Anne; brothers, Harold Krueger and Roger Krueger; sisters, Vera David and Betty (Harvey) Golz; sister-in-law, Arleen Krueger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Joan in death were her parents, husband, Oscar (10-27-2014), infant son, Kenneth and brothers, Roy (Maria) Krueger and Bobby Krueger.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Joan’s nieces and nephews.

Casketbearers will be Perry Turner, Terry Ulrich, Paul Hamik, Ramona Hoffman, Rick Mussett and Christopher Rau.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley, Fargo, ND or Ashley Medical Center.

Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
