Brooklyn Park, MN-Private Mass of Christian Burial for Joelene Kay Oakes, 67, of Brooklyn Park and formerly of Aberdeen will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Rev. Fr. Michael Kapperman will officiate.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

In loving memory, Joelene the youngest daughter of Bob and Kay Kessler. Passed gently into the night of Monday September 21, 2020. She was 67 years of age and is survived by her five siblings, three children, four step-children, and her grandchildren.

From a young age, Joelene became a caretaker for her grandmother and subsequently worked diligently as a nurse’s aide at Mother Joseph Manor, caring for the elderly.

She loved to travel and was always fun and spontaneous. One of our favorite memories was spending time in Athens, Greece; where she was supporting her son, who won multiple Medals in the Special Olympics World Games.

God saw it fit to call Joelene by his side. We will miss her with each breath we take, every second of every minute of every day. We will see her in stars within the sky, we will see her in the sun, and in the moon. She was our guardian angel. A mother’s love is one of the most magical things in the universe. To guide you, shape you, protect you, nurture you and feed you.
Like the North Star, Joelene was always there a constant in our lives, someone to rely on and count on. She gave us room to make mistakes but was always there to catch us when we fell.

Our mother was kind, compassionate, considerate and a loving soul. Her life was not easy, she faced adversity with grit and determination. In times of strife she was always the protector, she shielded us with grace and compassion.

We know she is in a better place, forever young, and forever at peace.

Love you mom, grandma, sister, and friend.

With thanks to all the caring hearts of doctors, nurses, and caring individuals from Fresenius Kidney Care, Traditions Living, and Life Spark Hospice.
