Lorraine M. Metzger

Eureka, SD-Funeral Service for Lorraine M. Metzger, 95, of Eureka will be 10:30 am, Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Zion American Lutheran Church, Eureka. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Lorraine's obituary.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00-6:00 pm with a prayer service at 4:00 pm at the funeral home.

Lorraine died March 20, 2021 at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Lorraine M. Rau, daughter of Gust and Martha (Hirsch) Rau was born August 12, 1925 on the family homestead north of Java, SD. She attended Blessing School near the family farm, while working on the farm.

Lorraine was united in marriage to Albert Metzger on July 1, 1947 at Sutley Evangelical United Brethren Church a few miles from the homestead. They made their home on the Metzger homestead southwest of Eureka. They were general farmers and operated a dairy. Lorraine also worked in Eureka as a cleaning lady for Dr. McIntosh, Eureka Motel and for ten years as custodian at Eureka Public School. Lorraine always needed to be busy working. In 1975, they moved to Eureka and she entered nursing care in 2007.

Lorraine loved going for walks...year-round, but certainly not during her afternoon soap operas that she watched. She liked gardening and quilting. Over the years, she was very proficient at rebating with coupons, saving a generous amount of money. She was a former member of Hoffnungsthal Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide and a current member of Zion American Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared Lorraine's life are her son, Gary (Susan) Metzger of Eureka; daughters, Margie Gentry of Colorado Springs, CO, and Sara (James) Freiday of Big Lake, MN; brothers, Stanley (Viola) Rau and Leslie Rau, both of Eureka; sisters, Ruth Mutschler of Eureka, and Janice Theis of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (4-25-2011), daughter, Linda Maki (5-2-2012), grandson, Grant Weisz, son-in-law, Robert Gentry, three sisters, Marilda Christensen, LaVida Eberhart and Ethline Fischer and five brothers, Erwin Rau, Perry Rau, Clarence Rau, Harvey Rau, and Richard Rau.

Casketbearers will be Justin Metzger, Tyler Metzger, Karen Mutschler, Jim Freiday, Zach Vetch and Shannon Weisz.
