Myron died January 2, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center Fargo.
Myron Dwight Rau was born May 28, 1929 to Edward and Emma (Klein) Rau in Ashley, ND. This is where he grew up, graduating from Ashley High School with the class of 1947. He attended college at Jamestown State College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Myron enlisted into the United States Navy and served as a weather specialist on the USS New Jersey.
He was united in marriage to Geraldine (Jerri) Stogsdill on June 11, 1953 in Myron’s parents’ home in Ashley. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Lehr, ND and taught for two years. He then moved to Ashley to teach. He attended Northern State College and earned his master’s degree in Education. During those summer months for two years, he took classes at Baylor University while visiting Jerri’s family in Dallas, TX. Myron continued to teach in Ashley and was an athletic coach for 25 years. In 1979, they moved to Solen, ND where he taught for two years. They then moved to Colorado, then to Arizona. In 2011 they moved back to Ashley where they enjoyed their retirement.
Myron was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Frank Piper American Legion Post #53 of Ashley, and Ashley Country Club. He was a former member of Ashley Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing and fishing; and in his later years he kept his mind sharp with computer games, puzzles, crosswords, and newspapers. His two little dogs are missing his company.
Grateful for having shared Myron’s life are his wife of 67 years, Jerri; daughters, Carol Rau of Lisbon, ND, and Debbie (Steven) Halles of West Hills, CA; sister, June Mueller of St. Louis, MO, and nephew Dr. Keith Rau of Fargo.

I am sorry for your loss.
Was Myron related to another Myron Rau from Napoleon that was a mechanic on the BN Railroad. Age about early 60’’s?
I am a physician helping at the Sanford Hospital in Aberdeen and saw the brief obituary in the American News. The Myron that I knew on the RR was a great mechanic and a good friend one summer. I bet your Myron was a good guy, too. I would love to har from young Myron if he is family. Thank you and again, my heartfelt condolences to you.
No, not the same Myron

I was so fond of Myron as my PE teacher when I went to school. He and wife Jerry were good family friends of my mom, Vivian Meidinger. I remember babysitting for the girls, Carol and Debbie when I was in HS. Blessing to Jerry, the girls, and the rest of Myron’s family.
Deepest sympathy Jeri and family. May you celebrate Myron’s life sharing your memories, having tears turn to smiles of joy and find peace and comfort knowing he is at peace.
So sorry for your loss. Myron was a great teacher but also a great person. He will long be remembered as a wonderful person.
Sorry for your loss. Myron and I were classmates grade one through 12..graduating in 1947 from Ashley High School. He was one of the four boys in that class.
My most sincere condolences to Jeri, Carol, Deb and families. I knew Myron to be a good teacher, loving husband and father, good community member and friend to my dad. He lived a wonderful, long life and was respected by many. May you find comfort in your memories. God bless.
We send love and sympathy to Mryon Rau’s family, thanking God for his life and influence. We recall happy memories of Myron Rau teaching Physical Education, Typing, and Drivers Education in the 1960’s, and always appreciated Myron’s encouraging, positive personality.
I may be wrong but I am thinking he was one of my bus drivers
Hi Betty, yes he did some bus driving. He helped whenever he could
My deepest sympathies to your family. Your father was a such a calm, kind man of faith with a servant heart and a good teacher. ( BTW: His father was my busdriver in the early 60’s).
So sorry to learn Jeri and family. God’s peace be with you all.

I just received a nice letter from Myron three weeks ago in response to something I had sent him. Good guy, good sport. RIP Coach.
So sorry for your loss. May the Lord comfort you and your family during this sad time.
Myron was my typing teacher 61 years ago. Still remember what he made us type as class started. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country. He was a respected teacher and coach.
Hold on to the memories, for they will always be with you. Hold on to the times you shared, the laughs you had, the things you did together, the comfort you felt with each other. Every moment will always be with you. My deepest sympathy to Jeri, Carol and my dear friend Debbie.
Jeri & family,
May the love of God, & the peace of the Holy Spirit comfort you.
I had Mr. Rau as my PE teacher, but it did not take him long to know I was athletically challenged. After numerous attempts to jump over the horse(not sure what they call it these days) he said” Donna just lay on top of it” & he had the rest of the girls go over it with me on it. I don’t remember ever being pushed off. RIP & thanks for understanding.
Thank you dear friend for your beautiful words.
Our entire family sends our sincerest sympathies, support and love at the passing of your beloved father and husband. He was such a wonderful educator, coach and human being. He always had a warm smile when I’d see him and Jeri at church each time I went home for a visit. You are all in our prayers as we share in your sorrow. I am honored that you asked me to sing for his funeral. I hope it all works out that I can do that for your family.
