Aberdeen, SD-Funeral service for Myrtrice L. Sigler, 95, of Aberdeen will be 11:00 am, Monday, August 26, 2019 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Rev. Kevin Bergeson will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens at Aberdeen.
There will be a prayer service Sunday at 7:00 pm with visitation from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Myrtrice died August 17, 2019 at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen.
Myrtrice Lorraine Carlson, daughter of Daniel Winfred Benedict and Eveline (Benson) Carlson was born July 3, 1924 on the family homestead at Claremont, SD. She was baptized in Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Claremont. She attended school in Claremont, graduating from Claremont High School with the class of 1942. Her dream was to become a famous singer.
Myrtrice married Paul Gilchrist on March 6, 1943. They lived on the Gilchrist farm near Columbia, SD. She was chosen as Mrs. Columbia and was third runner-up in Mrs. Starlight of Aberdeen, vying for the title of Mrs. South Dakota in August of 1951. They had three daughters and later divorced. She moved to Aberdeen with their daughters and she worked at S.S. Kresge Co. at the candy counter.
Myrtrice married Kenneth Sigler on March 20, 1953 in Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. They had two daughters and together raised all five girls. She and Ken divorced in the early 1960’s. She continued raising her daughters. She became an Avon representative which she did until retirement. As an Avon representative, she won numerous Avon awards for her saleswomanship.
With her love of singing, she shared her talent by singing at the Columbia Community Auditorium Benefit and she acted in “The Sound of Music”, with the community theatre in the role of “Sister Bertha”. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and sang in the choir during the 1960’s, sometimes as a soloist.
Grateful for having shared Myrtrice’s life are her daughters, Kathy (Ray) Felch of Minneota, MN, Paula Fite of Myrtle Beach, SC, Judy Haselhorst of Aberdeen, Carol (Herb) Miller of Plymouth, MN and, Susan (David) Hopper of Aberdeen; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marlyn “Pete” Carlson and sisters, Naomi Duffy, Doris Rolie and Ardys Posch.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Myrtrice’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers will be Jeff Renwick, Jamie Sigler, Todd Mullner, Shannon Arline, Michael Hopper and Isaiah Arline.
