Raymond died April 5, 2018 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor surrounded by his family in prayer.

Raymond Joseph Hoerner, son of Michael A. and Louise (Jistel) Hoerner was born November 25, 1928 at Hoven, SD. He was raised on a farm 6 ½ miles east of Bowdle. Raymond attended country school and worked on the family farm until he was drafted into the United States Army. He served two years, then returned home.

Raymond was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Barbara Scherr, from Roscoe on June 15, 1953 in St. Thomas Catholic Church in Roscoe. They moved to a farm between Roscoe and Bowdle where they raised their five children. Raymond also attended Agriculture School for two years, then worked as a Township Assessor in the Bowdle/Roscoe area. They lived on the farm until 1979 when they then moved to Aberdeen. Raymond worked at United Building Centers for seven years and at Aberdeen Public Schools as a carpenter for 11 ½ years.

After Raymond’s retirement he became involved with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and loved going to daily Mass and Adoration. His faith in Our Heavenly Father was first, then the love of his life, Barbara, their five children, 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus. Raymond loved woodworking in his garage, making memorable treasures for his family. He always showed how much love, kindness and compassion he had for family and friends.
