Burial in Houghton Cemetery.

Bobby died April 27, 2020 at his home.

Robert “Bobby” Sombke was born June 13, 1949 to Ora and Doretta (Howe) Sombke in Conde, SD.  At the age of one they moved to Houghton, SD where Bobby lived with his parents until his father’s death in 2001. In 2003 Bobby moved with his mother to Aberdeen, SD.  He began attending the Adjustment Training Center (Aspire) day program in 2003 and in 2006 due to his mother’s failing health he moved into a group home until the time of his death.

Bobby loved being around people! While in Houghton he enjoyed having coffee daily at the café and later at the apartment where they lived. He was a huge Minnesota Twin fan and spent many hours watching and listening to them with his Mom. Bobby also enjoyed his time bowling in the Special Olympics.  He was always watching the weather and whenever you saw him, he would always tell you it was going to rain or snow…depending on the season.  On nice days he enjoyed sitting outside on the porch watching people and cars go by.  In the last few years, he loved going out to eat with family and would order a big meal plus desert and then would talk them into buying him pie and ice cream to take home so he could have more later.

Church was very important to Bobby; he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Houghton.  While living in Aberdeen he attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church and especially loved going to the Wednesday night suppers.

Grateful for having shared Bobby’s life are his sisters, Darlys (Ron) Bolduan of Aberdeen, Joelyn (Jim) Walth of Omaha, NE and Lynnette (Brad) Cotten of Watertown, SD and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, several aunts and uncles and one niece.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Bobby’s Memory to Aspire Foundation, Attn:  Janae, 607 N. Fourth St., Aberdeen, SD 57401.
