Aberdeen, SD-There will be no services for Robert “Bob” Farrell, 85, of Aberdeen.
Robert died March 21, 2021 at his home.
Robert Farrell was born June 6, 1935, to Michael and Elizabeth (Donavon) Farrell at Lackawanna County, PA.
Robert was united in marriage to Mavis Clark for 64 years. Robert and Mavis traveled the globe. Their journey started in Duluth, MN then moving to Orlando, FL where they started their family. Robert and Mavis had two boys, David and Michael. Robert was employed by Martin Marietta as a Quality Control Engineer for 30 years. Robert’s career provided his family with the adventure of living in El Paso, TX, Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands and Langdon, ND. The journey continued with adventures in Winsted, CT and Baltimore, MD where he ended his career with Martin Marietta. In retirement his adventurous spirit carried Robert and Mavis to Holyoke, CO, Hutchinson, KS and finally Aberdeen, SD.
Robert was respected and loved by all who knew him. He led an exceptional life and was generous with his time and resources. He lived the life of a servant he believed and demonstrated a life of paying it forward.
Robert served in The United States Air Force.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mavis; sons, David (Nikki) Farrell of Aberdeen and Michael (Laura) Farrell of Gainesville, FL; brothers, John Farrell of Denver, CO, Michael Farrell of Philadelphia, PA; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert left us with a final demonstration of his wit and sense of humor. Inside an old portfolio he used for work, we found on a piece of graft paper inside a page titled:
“What to do when I’m dead.”
1. Cremation without services
2. A list of phone numbers and instructions to take care of financial details.
3. Spread my ashes on the east side of the Organ mountains in New Mexico.
Take the world nice and easy, and the world will take you the same.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
I love it he would have also perfect
I did not know Bob very well, however, knowing Dave, (his son), and Nikki, (his daughter inlaw), and the heart they have for those that come into their lives, is a great testimony to Bob and Mavis. RIP.

I will cherish our memories of Trivial Pursuit (and how we never won) against grandpa ❤️ You are so missed – ❤️ Until we meet again – we will continue to share just how amazing you truly were
Uncle Bon will always have a special place in my heart. He always had a giggle and hug for me. He spent so many fun times with my dad. Times I know my dad cherished. Rest In Peace. We will love auntie Mae for you.
While I never really knew Bob, my grandpa (John, Bob’s brother) always speaks so highly of him. I’ve heard lots of stories about Bob’s funny and cheerful character and I’m glad that he was able to leave such a positive impact on others. He will not be forgotten and we are all wishing the best for Mavis and loved ones.
Wow Bob lived his life to the fullest. He left some very big shoes to fill. Bob was a great inspiration to talk to and will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mavis and the whole family.
The best great grandpa any girl could ever ask for. From stealing cookies when he wasn’t paying attention to gaining knowledge about life, I will never forget all the memories and moments we shared. He was such an inspiration to me and pushed me through school when times were rough. This year I am graduating and on that day, grandpa bob has the most special place in my heart. He loved his family with everything he had and he will be missed dearly. Sending so much love to grandma mavis. May he Rest In Peace. ❤️
There are not enough words that can be said that capture how great of a grandpa and person he was. From stealing the occasional cookie to always making me laugh nonstop even when things were tough, he always lit up a room and there was never a dull moment. all the good times and memories I’ve had with him with last forever may he Rest In Peace ❤️
I worked with and for Bob for quite a few years in Baltimore. More than the best boss you could ask for, he was a great friend. His view on life was contagious. He was – and remains – a tremendous influence on me. A lot of great memories that still bring a smile to my face….Godspeed my friend.
Heard through the grapevine of Roberts passing and I send my condolences and sympathy to the family. The loss of a loved one here is hard, but we pray “til we meet again” is a mantra to live by.
