Watertown, SD-Private Memorial Service for Roger Glenn Wolff, 91, of Watertown and formerly of Frederick will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Justin Brotzel will officiate. The service will be live streamed and available at www.Carlsenfh.com under Roger’s obituary.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites.

Roger died June 27, 2020 of natural causes with family at his side at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.

Roger was born on December 7, 1928 to John and Edyth (Moore) Wolff at rural Forbes, ND. The family moved to the Frederick, SD area in 1942. Roger attended rural grade school at Forbes and 8th grade at Barnard, SD. He took welding and farm mechanic courses at the North Dakota State Normal and Industrial School in Ellendale, ND for two winters. He farmed with his father and worked for other area farmers.

Roger was united in marriage to Betty Thompson of rural Barnard on September 15, 1950. They lived on their farm south of Frederick until Roger was inducted into the United States Army in February 1951. He served with the 31st “Dixie” Division stationed at Fort Jackson, SC. He served the last six months in the Munich, Germany area. They returned to the farm in the spring of 1953 after his honorable discharge. They remained on the farm until November 2001 when they moved to Watertown near Lake Kampeska.

Roger’s love of baseball had him playing with the Frederick Town team at age 14 until leaving for the Army. He served on the Frederick Equity Elevator board for several years. Roger was a blood donor with United Blood Services having given 15 gallons during his adult life. During retirement Roger enjoyed fishing, watching the Minnesota Twins and using his computer.

Roger is survived by his wife, Betty of 69 years; children, Michael (Cathy) Wolff of Florence, SD, Tracie Osthus of Sioux Falls, SD, and Jill (Floyd) Hansmeier of Bristol, SD; grandchildren, Casie (Ryan) McCay of Florence, Scott (Tezra) Osthus of Minneapolis, MN, David (Lynne) Osthus of Los Alamos, NM, Becky (Tony) Pileggi of Rochester, MN, Amy Hansmeier (fiancé William Warf III) of Boise, ID, Bethany (Cody) Hanson of Aberdeen; great-grandchildren, Paul, Noah, Seth, and Isabella McCay, Arlen Osthus, and Avery Hanson; brother, Dallas Wolff of Diamond City, AR; sister, Jean Cantwell of Aberdeen; sister-in-law, Paula Wolff of Oklahoma City, OK; and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jonathon Wolff; son-in-law, Charles Osthus; brother, Robert Wolff; and brother-in-law, Jack Cantwell.
