Dandridge, TN-Rosa Weisz Mayer, 97, of Dandridge and formerly of Ashley, ND passed peacefully in her sleep January 5, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by family.

Graveside service will be in Ashley City Cemetery in the spring.

Rosa Weisz Mayer was born in Romania on June 20, 1922. She was the youngest of five children born to Christian and Johanna (Schnaithmann) Hasenfusz. During World War II, Rosa and her family were displaced by the Russian Army and fled their home as refugees, eventually settling in Germany after the war.

She married Albert Weisz in 1946 and gave birth to their daughter, Ursula. Rosa, Albert, and Ursula immigrated to the United States in 1951, and settled in Ashley, ND where their second child, Rose-Marie was born. In 1957, Albert passed away unexpectedly, leaving Rosa widowed until she married Calford Mayer in 1959. Rosa then gave birth to their son Paul in 1962. After Calford passed away in 2017, Rosa moved to Tennessee to live with Rose-Marie until her death.

Rosa lived an epic life of challenges, obstacles, and sorrows, surviving her trials with grit, faith, and a loving family. She will be missed dearly, and her memories will remain with all who knew and loved her.

Rosa leaves behind her three children, Ursula (Tracy) Schock of Ashley; Rose-Marie (Randy) Bergen of Dandridge, TN; and Paul Mayer of Albany, OR; three grandchildren, Joshua and Lindsay Schock, and Claire Mayer; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Johanna Schock.

Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
