Aberdeen, SD-There will be a graveside service Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Riverside Memorial Cemetery.

Steven died February 27, 2019 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

Steven Wayne Walters, son of Samuel and Leone Kay (Strole) Walters was born October 2, 1964 at Santa Monica, CA. He grew up and attended school in the Santa Monica area. He moved with his family to Aberdeen in 1978. He entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged, working in the armory.

From 1995-1996, they lived in Holland, Michigan where he was a security guard. They then returned to Aberdeen. Steven had worked at several places in Aberdeen including the YMCA and Aberdeen Chrysler Center. Following a major health issue, Steven has been disabled for the past several years.

He was a huge sports fan and loved football and was a long-time Miami Dolphins fan. He also cheered on the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team and Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. He liked to listen to Elton John and Fleetwood Mac. He watched and collected old movies and enjoyed video games and taking the time to read the Bible. Most of all, Steven loved his children and grandchildren and cherished anytime he could spend with them.

Grateful for having shared Steven’s life are his children, Eric Walters of Aberdeen and Stephanie Sichmeller of Brookings; four grandchildren; sister, Kelly Day of Aberdeen and brother, Samuel Walters of California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Daniel.

Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
