Venturia, ND-Funeral service for Susan Kay Ritter, 69, of Venturia will be 11:00 am, Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Zion American Lutheran Church in Eureka, SD. Rev. Ryan Gage will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Venturia in the spring.

There will be a prayer service at 7:00 pm Friday with visitation from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home in Eureka.

Susan died Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at her home.

Susan Kay, daughter of Otto and Emma (Wolff) Opp was born August 31, 1950 at Eureka, SD.  She grew up on the family farm west of Long Lake, SD. Susan attended country school and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1968.  She was a member of Zion American Lutheran Church in Eureka.

Susan was united in marriage to Larry Ritter on August 24, 1968 in the Eureka Reformed Church. They made their home on the Ritter Farm west of Venturia, ND. Susan and Larry were general farmers, raising small grains and livestock. They started a custom combining business and ran this business until 2002. Susan then worked at the Ashley Café in Ashley, ND for many years.

Susan loved being outdoors and gardening. She cherished the special time spent with her grandson. She was very proud of her sons, Ross and Joe.

Grateful for having shared Susan’s life are her husband, Larry; sons, Ross Ritter of Venturia, Joe (Glennda) Ritter of Aberdeen, SD; siblings, Doris (Paul) Moriarty of Brookings, SD, Carolyn Hieb of Rapid City, SD, Janice (Maurice) Jundt of Sioux Falls, SD, Elizabeth Baker of Kansas, Marlene (Don) Kaul of Wisconsin, Karen Weber of Pierre, SD, Dan (Gayle) Opp of Columbia, SD, Della (Doug) Abeln of Groton, SD; sisters-in-law, Gloria Opp of Aberdeen and Luana (Robert) Kempf of Ashley; and one grandson, Joshua Ritter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Reinhold and Lasetta Ritter; brothers, Morris Opp and Ferdinand Opp; and brother-in-law, Tom Weber.

Casketbearers will be Ross Ritter, Joe Ritter, Joshua Ritter, Louis Opp, John Kempf and Michelle Kempf.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Zion Lutheran Cemetery-Rural Fund, PO Box 257, Ashley, ND 58413.
