Wanda Darlene was born February 7, 1952 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She grew up in the Faulkton/Cresbard, SD area, graduating from Cresbard High School with the class of 1970. She attended Aberdeen School of Commerce.
Wanda was united in marriage to Daryl Swanhorst on August 11, 1973 in Cresbard, SD. They made their home on a farm near Cresbard where she raised her three daughters. In 1985 she started working at WEB Water as a secretary. She and her girls moved to Mellette in 1987.

Wanda loved fishing whenever possible and was known for looking for Michael Kors purses whenever out shopping throughout her trips. The love Wanda had for her family was endless. When her girls were younger, she attended all of their activities and thoroughly enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities also. She would take all the grandchildren school supply shopping each year before school and made sure each one traveled with her to North Carolina for a special grandmother/granddaughter trip to visit family. She had two Golden Retriever dogs, Dexter, and George whom she loved very much and were part of her family.
