Ida was born October 23, 1938 at rural Ashley, ND to John and Anna (Fehling) Nitschke. She grew up on the family farm. On October 7, 1956, Ida was united in marriage to Wilmer Gehring at Zion Lutheran Church in Ashley. They lived on the family farm for a few years before moving to Aberdeen. Ida was a stay-at-home mother, taking care of their children and the home. She enjoyed being Altar Guild and on the kitchen committee at Zion Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, and after they transferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, she worked on quilts, cards and helped at funerals. Ida loved having company and always had plenty of food for all the visitors. She and Wilmer enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Ida enjoyed gardening and taking care of her flowers. She was diagnosed with Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy in 2012. Ida stayed at home for some time then moved into Bethesda Home of Aberdeen, where she spent the rest of her days until God called her home to be in Heaven with Him.

Grateful for having shared Ida’s life is her husband of 61 years, Wilmer Gehring of Aberdeen; son, Rick (Karie Dell) Gehring of Aberdeen; daughter, Renee (Dave) Jarvis of Aberdeen; four granddaughters, Chelsea (Nick) Conway of Rapid City, SD, Stephanie (Nick) Olson of Aberdeen, Kaitlin (Tom De Joseph) Gehring of Aberdeen, Jennifer (Ryan Dallmann) Johnson of Aberdeen, Justin (Jen) Jarvis of Oskaloosa, IA and Brandon (Jen) Jarvis of Oskaloosa, IA; five great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; siblings, Mabel Nitschke of Ashley, Harry Nitschke of Ashley, Melvin (Betty) Nitschke of Van Couver, WA, Viola (Gerald) Goettle of Ashley and Betty Lou Schiley of Bristol, SD.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or Bethesda Home of Aberdeen.
