Aberdeen, SD-Memorial service for Bertha Emma Vik, 95, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 am, Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Aberdeen. Pastor Brad Kingsriter will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in the spring.
Bertha died December 15, 2019 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab.
Bertha Emma Vik was born October 13, 1924 to William and Frances (Cooper) Wolters in Breckenridge, MN. Following her high school graduation, she attended North Dakota State College of Sciences in Wahpeton, ND, receiving an associate degree in Secretarial studies and Accounting. Following college, she worked in both Wahpeton and Fargo for several years, before moving to Aberdeen in 1952.
Bertha was united in marriage to Virgil Vik on December 24, 1952 in Aberdeen. After the birth of her daughters, she became a stay-at-home mother. Once her daughters were raised and living independently, she went to work at Aberdeen Senior Center as a Secretary/Receptionist for 17 years.
Bertha was a member of First Assembly of God in Aberdeen, where she spent a great amount of time enjoying church activities. She liked to garden and visit and socialize with friends.
Grateful for having shared Bertha’s life are her daughter, Diana Nguyen of Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Miranda (Allan Schmaltz) Pate-Schmaltz of Aberdeen, Melissa “Missy” (Koos O’Kennedy) Nguyen of Aberdeen, Angela “Annie” (Adam) Sahli of Ft. Wayne, IN, Scarlett Jorgenson of Fargo, ND and Anna Stigen of Venice, CA and six great-grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, daughter, Dawn Ward and daughter, Debra Vik, whom died two days later, December 17, 2019, three brothers and five sisters.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
