Pauline Mary Mathern, daughter of Andreas and Marianna (Roehrich) Mathern was born December 10, 1923 at Wishek, ND.  When she was 15 years old, her family moved to Aberdeen, where she graduated from Central High School with the class of 1942.  Pauline moved to Idaho Falls, ID where she worked in an ammunition plant during World War II.  After the war, she returned to Aberdeen.

Pauline was united in marriage to Alfred Ell on September 3, 1945.  They made their home in Aberdeen.  With this union, they were blessed with four children, Charlotte, Kenneth, Judy and Jeff.  She worked at Sears for 20 years as the Manager of the catalog department.  After she retired, she and Alfred spent many days fishing.  Pauline was an avid bowler enjoying leagues until in her 70’s.  Her husband died in 2011.  She continued to make her home in the house they raised their family in until her death.

Pauline enjoyed ceramics and crocheting.  Her family will always remember how much they enjoyed her baking, which she loved to do.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elks Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose, Women’s American Bowling Congress and Bowling Hall of Fame.

Grateful for having shared Pauline’s life are her children, Charlotte Ell of Aberdeen and Jeff (Margot) Ell of Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Kenny, daughter, Judy Ell and four brothers and five sisters.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) or Wounded Warrior Program.
