Aberdeen, SD-Memorial service for Robert “Bob” Nixon, 83, of Aberdeen will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 15, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Frederick. The Rev. Galen Sylvester will officiate.

Burial will be in Savo Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.

A gathering with Bob’s family will be Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm with a time of sharing at 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Bob died February 11, 2018 at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

Robert “Bob” Nixon, son of Emil and Laimi (Geranen) Nixon was born December 6, 1934 at Aberdeen, SD. He graduated from Frederick High School with the class of 1952. After high school, Bob enlisted into the United States Air Force, serving from September 1952 to September of 1956 when he was honorably discharged. Bob then attended South Dakota State University.

Bob was united in marriage to Valerie Larson on June 26, 1959 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Frederick. He graduated from college in September of 1960, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He began employment with General Electric Company immediately following graduation and remained a GE employee for 35 years. Bob worked as a Systems Test Engineer in several locations including Syracuse, NY, Wiesbaden, Germany, Huntsville, AL and Pittsfield, MA. At the time of his retirement, they lived in Lee, Massachusetts and in 2001 they moved back to South Dakota, building a house at Elm Lake and in 2013 they moved to Aberdeen.

When Bob was younger, he enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and had been a member of American Legion and Lions Club.

Grateful for having shared Bob’s life is his wife of 58 years, Valerie; son, Bradley (Amber) Nixon of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Rhonda (Mathew) O’Brien of Minneapolis, MN; three grandchildren, Hunter Nixon and Maya and Colin O’Brien and brother, Roger (Sheri) Nixon of Frederick.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family prefers memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Frederick.

Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
