Aberdeen, SD-Funeral service for Robert D. Wuertz, 84, of Aberdeen will be 10:00 am, Saturday, October 5, 2019 at First United Methodist Church.  Rev. Dr. John Hisel will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.

There will be a prayer service Friday at 7:00 pm with visitation from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Robert died October 1, 2019 at Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center.

Robert D. Wuertz, son of Harry and Ruby Margaret (Heller) Wuertz was born October 19, 1934 at Sioux Falls, SD.  He began his education in Davis, SD, graduating from Hurley High School with the class of 1952.  He furthered his education at University of South Dakota, graduating in 1956 with a bachelor’s in business.  While in college, he was in Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC), serving in the Army Reserve as a Second Lieutenant.  After graduation, Robert became employed with National Bank of South Dakota in Sioux Falls.

Robert was united in marriage to Carol Krueger on October 1, 1960 in United Methodist Church in White, SD.  They moved to Aberdeen where he began as a Tax Examiner for Internal Revenue Service where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1995.  After he retired, Bob drove many miles for United Blood Services.

Robert was a member of First United Methodist Church, Anglers Sunday School, active as an usher, and Table of 8 member.  He was a charter member of Driftbusters Snowmobile Club and had served as treasurer, charter member of Exchange Club, and member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). He also was an Aberdeen Jaycee, serving in several positions, including President, member of Delta Sigma Pi and had the honor of being inducted into the SD Snowmobile Hall of Fame in 2005.

Grateful for having shared Robert’s life are his wife, Carol; daughter, Katherine Paggett of Groton and great-granddaughter, Ingland Verwey of Aberdeen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Amanda Paggett and sister, Janet Hill.

Honorary Casketbearers will be Robert’s friends that are still alive.

Casketbearers will be Aberdeen Driftbusters Snowmobile Club Members, Duane Sutton, Jim Weaver, Kelly Weaver, Dennis Gelling, Dennis Beckler and Sharmie Jensen.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to Aberdeen Driftbusters charities.

Bob will be remembered for his quick wit, devotion to friends and family, and his generosity. He had an especial affinity for the internal combustion engine, on the farm, racetrack or roadway.
