Aberdeen, SD-Funeral service for Roger Arlt, 73, of Aberdeen will be 10:30 am, Monday, November 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Aberdeen. Rev. Gary Compton will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Roger died November 20, 2019 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital after a two-year battle with cancer.
Roger was born August 3, 1946 to Theodore and Viola (Miller) Arlt in Aberdeen, SD. This is where he was raised, graduating from Central High School with the class of 1964.
Roger was united in marriage to Boneta “Bonnie” Piper on July 13, 1965 in First Baptist Church in Aberdeen. They made their home on family land and started a farm. Roger loved farming, enjoying custom haying every summer and Oliver Tractors. He also liked to tend to his sheep. Roger worked as an Optician for more than 50 years, with the last 25 years at Vision Care Associates in Aberdeen.
He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed building. He could be found in the crowd at auction sales and attended many of them, especially Jark/Worlie Auctions.
Roger was a member of First Baptist Church.
Grateful for having shared Roger’s life are his wife of 54 years, Bonnie; daughters, Tracy (Scott) Gravning of Alexandria, MN and Michelle Kelly of Watertown, SD; son, J Arlt of Aberdeen and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Jasmine and brother, Ted Arlt.
Roger’s family would like to thank Dr. Conklin, Chris Nelson and staff and Avera St. Luke’s Hospital ICU staff for the wonderful care that Roger received at the end of his life.
Honorary Casketbearers will be Vision Care Associates Employees, Northeast South Dakota Sheep Producers and Sanford Aberdeen Medical Center Employees.
Casketbearers will be Ken Peterson, Ken Kusler, Chuck Sanderson, Tom Dosch, Ray Miller and Rich Ackerson.
Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with arrangements.
