Leola, SD-Mass of Christian Burial for Waneta Geffre, 89, of Leola will be 10:30 am, Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Leola. Rev. Fr. Russell Homic will officiate.

Interment will be in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Cemetery.

A liturgical wake at 7:30 pm Friday with visitation from 6:30-7:30 pm at the church.

Waneta died May 31, 2019 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Waneta Meidinger, daughter of August and Hildegard (Stoller) Meidinger was born May 4, 1930 near Leola. This is where she grew up attending Leola Public School and graduating from Leola High School with the class of 1948.

She was united in marriage to Laurence Geffre on May 19, 1949. They made their home in Lead, SD where Waneta was a stay at home mother. They moved back to Leola in August 1966 and she worked part-time at D&M Café for many years as a cook and waitress. In the late 1960’s Waneta began work at Floyd Meidinger Law Office as a legal secretary. She retired in 2000. Through the years she enjoyed camping and fishing. She always loved her bus trips and traveling when she could.

During retirement she cared for her grandchildren and enjoyed time attending many of her grandchildren’s events. She also spent time gardening and tended to a large vegetable garden.

Waneta was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Roy S. Hickman American Legion Post #78 Auxiliary and also served as American Legion Department of South Dakota Auxiliary Chaplin. She was involved in many organizations through the years to help her kids or community.

Waneta is survived by her children, David (Nancy) Geffre of Sioux Falls, SD, Sheri (Lynn) Ketelsen of Rapid City, SD, Debra (Don) Fischer of Grand Forks, ND, Timothy (Carla) Geffre of Leola and Neil (Val) Geffre of Leola; 13 grandchildren, (Joshua, Jessica), (Nathan, Derek, Courtney), (Laura, Justin), (Lucius, Skyler, Jadyn,), (Tanner, Samantha and Brady); and 10 great-grandchildren, (Leo, Ari), (Lola, Lillian, Hattie), (Caleb), (Elijah), (Charlotte, Logan, and Levi). And many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (1-30-2015), and two sisters.

Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Aberdeen has been entrusted with the arrangements.
